BackRoads 2026 Summer Marathon Program
Introducing the 2026 Summer Marathon Program!
We’re back at it for the summer! Offering a 16 week structured program for runners tackling their first marathon or trying to work on improving their time. This program includes a great mix of new and experienced runners, creating a fantastic opportunity for sharing and collective community learning.
This season the program will provide target times with the following 3 pace groups**:
-
Group A: 4:15 - 5:00 Marathon
-
Group B: 3:30 - 4:15 Marathon
-
Group C: 3:00 - 3:30 Marathon
** If these pace groups are not comfortable for you, you could consider the Half Marathon Group or the 10K program to build up your endurance and pacing.
After such positive feedback from the winter programs, we've decided to continue to offer a two-tiered approach to the program so you can pick the features that fits your needs best.
The Standard Training Plan provides the full 16 week schedule in advance with a routine of 2 hosted workouts and 1 long run per week. It is ideal for those runners tackling their first marathon or trying to work on improving their time. The program will be marathon distance specific, but with a similar structure to the half-marathon program; enabling members to come out if they can’t attend their usually scheduled workout night. In addition to the hosted workouts, suggested distances on other days are also incorporated into the plan. For the marathon distance it is recommended to get in 4 - 5 runs per week.
The PLUS Training Plan (formerly Advanced Plan) is not just intended for faster runners, it's designed for those who like the convenience of having the workouts sent to their running watches as well as those looking to take their running and fitness to the next level with an integrated strength program, and a monthly coaching connection call. This program provides everything you need to ensure athletic success and tracking with a higher level of structure, support, and accountability. and takes a more all-encompassing approach to your training.
Standard vs The PLUS Plan - What's the difference?
The PLUS Plan includes all the same benefits in the standard plan PLUS the following additional benefits:
-
Electronic Workouts: Running workouts are programmed and synched directly to your athletic watch (Garmin, Coros, Apple, Polar, etc.) Group-level paces (above) will be assigned, so you know your workout targets before you begin and can stay on track throughout each workout.
-
Integrated Strength Program: Receive a structured strength workout plan delivered every 4 weeks to build resilience, reduce injury risk, and complement your running progress.
-
Coaching Connection: Join a free form monthly group call/meeting to discuss endurance training, racing strategies, and more with peers and coaches.
